Xfund is an early-stage venture firm built to back entrepreneurs who think laterally and experiment across disciplines.

Xfund is a pioneering partnership between some of the country’s most successful venture capital firms and some of the world’s best research universities in the United States and abroad.

Xfund was founded in January 27, 2012, by Jim Breyer, Hugo Van Vuuren, David Edwards, Patrick Chung, Harry Weller, and Alan Crane. The firm is headquartered iin Palo Alto, California, with an office in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Xfund was launched as an unparalleled collaboration between Harvard University and New Enterprise Associates and Breyer Capital, which house some of the world's most successful venture capitalists.

Xfund's vision is to combine the raw talent, intellectual rigor, and free-thinking of academia with the hard-nosed investment acumen of venture capital. The firm looks beyond the stereotypical technical pedigrees to seek out extraordinary people who are often systemically ignored by traditional venture capital —founders who have pursued liberal arts degrees.

Xfund's limited partners included Top Tier Capital, Goldman Sachs, Saudi Aramco, Jasper Ridge, Breyer Capital and others. The company raised $120M for its third fund Xfund 3 on Sep 01, 2020. Xfund's portfolio of companies include 23andMe, Curebase, KENSHO, Synapse, AeroVect, FormaAI etc.
