Wealthsimple was founded in September 2014 by Michael Katchen and Brett Huneycutt. The company is based in Toronto, Ontario with additional offices in New York, New York and London, UK.

 

Wealthsimple is known for its client-centric approach to financial products, which include automated investing, commission-free stock and crypto trading, a savings account, and a tax filing software. 

 

Wealthsimple has evolved the financial services industry in Canada by bringing smart, simple and affordable financial products and services to market; today over 2 million Canadians use Wealthsimple products.

 

Wealthsimple is backed by Allianz X, TCV, Power Corp., Greylock, Meritech, Two Sigma Ventures, Impression Ventures and others. The company raised C$750M ($610M) in a new financing on May 03, 2021. This brings Wealthsimple's total funding to CA$1.13B to date. The latest round pushed the company's valuation to over CA$4B post-money. Wealthsimple was previously valued at CA$1.4B from funding raised in Oct 2020.

 

Wealthsimple has received many awards and accolades. In 2015, Product Hunt Toronto honored Wealthsimple with its first-ever Product of the Year Award. In 2016, the 20th Annual Webby Awards named Wealthsimple its Best Financial Services/Banking website. Wealthsimple was also ranked 29th on the 2017 Fintech100 List.
