UPSIDE Foods

UPSIDE Foods, formerly Memphis Meats, is a food technology company developing a way to grow real meat, poultry and seafood directly from animal cells, without the need to raise and slaughter animals.

UPSIDE Foods' mission is to bring delicious, healthy meat to your table by harvesting it from cells instead of animals.

UPSIDE Foods was founded in 2015 by Uma Valeti, Nicholas Genovese, and Will Clem. The company is headquartered in Berkeley, California.

UPSIDE Foods has created chicken as its first consumer product. These products are not vegetarian, plant-based or meat alternatives -- they are real meat, made without the animal.

UPSIDE Foods has achieved numerous industry-defining milestones, including being the first company to produce multiple species of meat (beef, chicken and duck).

UPSIDE Foods has won various industry awards, including New York Times' Good Tech Awards, FastCo's Next Big Thing in Tech, and the Best and Brightest Companies to Work For in the Nation by the National Association for Business Resources.

UPSIDE is backed by SoftBank Group, Temasek, Norwest, Bill Gates, Abu Dhabi Growth Fund (ADG), Baillie Gifford, Threshold Ventures, SALT fund, Synthesis Capital, EDBI, and others. The company raised $400M in Series C round on Apr 21, 2022. This brings UPSIDE's total funding to $606M to date. The latest round mints UPSIDE a unicorn with a valuation of $1B post-money.
