Uhnder

Uhnder is a start-up developing disruptive products for sensing, cognition and communication.

Uhnder uses a combination of advanced CMOS and digital code modulation (DCM) technology to deliver radars with improved performance, smaller size, lower power and cost.

Uhnder was founded in 2015 by Manju Hegde & Curtis Davis and is based in Austin, Texas.

Uhnder has created a “digital imaging radar chip” that offers improved resolution and detection capabilities over traditional lidar, leading to increased safety for passengers, roads and cities in general.

Uhnder’s approach of using CMOS combined with advanced digital processing techniques borrowed from cellular communications gives them a competitive advantage over existing radar sensor and could even apply to 5G mmWave communications, robotics and surveillance applications.

Uhnder also refers to as 4D imaging, is based on something called “digital code modulation” that’s said to be a superior replacement for the traditional analog frequency modulation used in lidar.

Uhnder signed an agreement with Magna in 2015 to be the supplier for their next generation radar sensor called ICON. Multiple global automotive OEMs are currently evaluating Magna/Uhnder’s digital RoC prototype. In addition, several other sensor manufacturers are doing early product evaluations.

Uhnder's investors include SAIC, Magna, Khosla Ventures,Sensata Technologies, Sands Capital Ventures, ACME Capital, Lockheed Martin, Monta Vista Capital, Fosun RZ Capital and others. The company raised $45M in Series C round on Dec 15, 2020. This brings Uhnder's total funding to $145M to date.
