SPARK Microsystems

SPARK is a fabless semiconductor company that is leading the way towards ultra-low power wireless communications for consumer and IoT-connected devices.

SPARK offers a unique and innovative wireless transceiver technology that achieves an order of magnitude better energy efficiency and latency than BLE or ZigBee and supports faster data rates.

SPARK was founded in 2016 by Frederic Nabki, Dominic Deslandes, Michiel Soer, and Mohammad Taherzadeh. The company is headquartered in Montreal, with presence across

SPARK uses its patented technologies to bring to market a high-performance wireless transceiver that allows for orders of magnitude improved power consumption, latency and more accurate ranging and positioning, while providing higher data rates than competing technologies.

SPARK’s UWB short-range wireless technology dramatically reduces energy consumption for connected devices. Its performance attributes are essential for enabling the next generation of wireless connected mobile devices and sensors optimized for high energy efficiency, driving a significant reduction in battery usage and replacement.

SPARK built a global sales and distribution network by collaborating with industry leading distributors & manufacturers, including WPG Americas Inc., Digi-Key Electronics, ActiveRep GmbH, Cedar Technologies, Inventworx, Natura, Spectrum Design, Skysoon, Edom, among others.

SPARK is backed by Economic Development Canada (EDC), Real Ventures, ND Capital, Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC), Nokia, Idealist Capital, Cycle Capital, and others. The company raised CAD$48M ($35M) in a Series B round on Mar 13, 2023. This brings SPARK's total funding to $58M to date.
