reMarkable is an E Ink writer tablet for reading documents and textbooks, sketching and note-taking with the goal of a paper-like writing experience.
reMarkable is the first digital device that gives you a pen-to-paper note-taking experience.
reMarkable was founded in 2013 by Magnus Wanberg. The company is headquartered in Oslo, Norway.
reMarkable launched a simple and slick $299 e-paper tablet of the same name. The device offers the most paper like digital reading, writing and sketching experience yet. At core of the product lies the CANVAS display - the world’s fastest digital paper.
reMarkable also launched a subscription service called Connect, provides a few features to get information into and out of your reMarkable tablet, but otherwise nothing especially real-time and dynamic.
reMarkable uses its own operating system, named Codex. Codex is based on Linux, but optimized for electronic paper display technology. reMarkable claims to have sold 1 million devices since 2017.
reMarkable is backed by Spark Capital, Oculus investors, Twitter, Slack, and others. The company raised a new round of an undisclosed amount on May 10, 2022. The deal valued the company at a $1B post-money. reMarkable has raised a total of $24M in funding to date.
