Quaise Energy

Quaise, a spun out of the MIT Plasma Science and Fusion Center, is an energy company pioneering millimeter wave drilling technology to access deep geothermal energy.

Quaise enables the global clean energy transition by providing universal access to supercritical geothermal energy through disruptive drilling technology.

Quaise was co-founded in 2017 by Carlos Araque, Matt Houde and Aaron Mandell. The company is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Quaise's breakthrough technology uses a gyrotron to generate millimetric electromagnetic waves for drilling at depths beyond what can be accomplished today with conventional drilling.

Quaise's approach to deep geothermal is unique in being geography agnostic: by outfitting existing drilling rigs with millimeter wave technology, they’re opening the way for power-dense, deep geothermal energy on a global scale.

Quaise is working toward accessing depths of 10-20 km, which would dramatically open the opportunity for this clean, carbon-free and power-dense energy source.

Quaise is backed by The Engine, Safar Partners, Prelude Ventures, Nabors Industries, Collaborative Fund, Fine Structure Ventures, Vinod Khosla, TechEnergy Ventures, Techint Group, Xplorer Capital, and others. The company raised and additional $12M in Series A round on Jun 08, 2022. This brings Quaise's total funding to $75M to date.
