Petal is a new kind of credit card company created to help people build credit and spend responsibly.

Petal's aim is to bring financial innovation and opportunity to everyone.

Petal was founded in 2016 by Jason Gross, Jack Arenas, David Ehrich, and Andrew Endicott. The company is headquartered in New York, New York.

Petal has built proprietary technology that also analyzes banking history—measuring creditworthiness based on income, spending, and savings. This process, referred to as “Cash Scoring”, measures economic fundamentals that aren’t typically considered in a credit approval decision.

Petal has pioneered cash flow underwriting, as an alternative to credit scores, to make credit more accessible, and offers a simple, modern digital experience that encourages members to build credit, avoid debt, and spend responsibly.

Petal has nearly 300,000 Petal cardholders, which the company refers to as “members.” It has been adding 10,000 to 20,000 new members per month.

Petal is backed by Valar Ventures, Tarsadia Investments, SVB, Trinity Capital, CUNA Mutual, Rosecliff Ventures, Afore Capital, RiverPark Ventures, Great Oaks, Encore Bank, and others. The company raised $140M in Series D round on Jan 05, 2022. This brings Petal's total funding to $702.2M to date. The latest round valued the company at $800M post-money.
