MycoWorks

MycoWorks is a biotech startup which produces sustainable products and apparels from fungi.

MycoWorks makes fine leathers from mycelium (mushroom) for applications in luxury fashion, footwear, and beyond.

MycoWorks was founded in 2013 by Sophia Wang and Phil Ross. The company is headquartered in Emeryville, California.

MycoWorks produces weatherproof materials using the fungi "Ganoderma lucidum" and "Pleurotus ostreatus". They use the production method (which is similar to casting) to make furniture, bricks, footwear, and leather.

MycoWorks hs created of Reishi™, an entirely new option for leather made from the company's Fine Mycelium™ technology. A proprietary woven cellular microstructure which emulates the collagen structure in animal leathers, Reishi Fine Mycelium provides brands with the same performance, quality and aesthetics as leather.

MycoWorks launched its first partnership with Hermès in early 2021 and now has contracts in place with a range of major global luxury brands.

MycoWorks is backed by DCVC Bio, Novo Holdings, Prime Movers Lab, 8VC, WTT Investment Ltd., Valor Equity Partners, Humboldt Fund, Future Tech Labs, AgFunder, Susa Ventures, Natalie Portman, John Legend, and others. The company raised $125M in Series C round on Jan 13, 2022.
