Metropolis is an AI and computer vision start-up built to modernize parking and empower the future of mobility.
Metropolis develops advanced computer vision and machine learning technology that make mobile commerce delightful.
Metropolis was founded in 2017 by Alexander Israel, with support from Travis Kell, Peter Fisher, and Courtney Fukuda. The company is headquartered in Los Angeles, California.
Metropolis’ proprietary operating system utilizes computer vision technologies at its locations to enable frictionless entry and exit, introduce algorithmic pricing, facilitate API-level integrations with third parties, capture detailed analytics for real estate partners, and create seamless online to offline experiences for its customers.
Metropolis equips existing parking structures with its systems — enables customers to “drive in and drive out” without having to swipe a credit card or pay with cash. The platform can recognize cars via cameras equipped with Metropolis’ software, automatically charging the corresponding customers’ online account.
Metropolis' platform powers more than 600 parking facilities, and has more than 1.8 million users. Metropolis connects both to thousands of surrounding restaurants, coffee shops and retail stores in more than 60 cities.
Metropolis is backed by Starwood, 3L Capital, 01 Advisors, Dragoneer, Eldridge Industries, Silver Lake Waterman, Assembly Ventures, Slow Ventures, Sidewalk Labs initiative, UP Partners, RXR Realty, and others. The company raised $167M in Series B round on Jun 15, 2022. This brings Metropolis' total funding to $226M to date.
