LightForce

LightForce Orthodontics is a digital platform providing orthodontists with fully customized, 3D printed tooth-moving tools.

LightForce Orthodontics aimed to tackle the inflexibility of orthodontic prescriptions, that is, inflexible bracket manufacturing and the imprecision of analog treatment planning.

LightForce Orthodontics was founded in 2015 by Dr. Alfred Griffin, along with Dr. Lou Shuman. The company is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts.

LightForce launched their first product to the Orthodontic market - the world’s first, and only, fully customized 3D printed bracket system and digital treatment software. Orthodontists who treat patients with LightForce technology begin the process by sending LightForce technicians a scan of the patient’s teeth and their treatment plan.

LightForce technology uses ceramic material virtually identical to familiar injection molded brackets, but is specially formulated for 3D-printing. The technology elevates the standard for precision and efficiency for today’s orthodontic appliances, while also offering patients a new esthetic option.

LightForce has developed additional orthodontic advancements such as the Light Bracket, which is their line of translucent braces. The Light Bracket is a more aesthetic option that blends in with the color of a patient’s teeth, reducing the visibility of the overall system.

LightForce is backed by Kleiner Perkins, Ally Bridge Group, Matrix Partners, Tyche Partners, AM Ventures, Transformation Capital, CareCapital, Omega Venture Partners, Matter Venture Partners, AAO, and others. The company raised $80M in a Series D round on Aug 02, 2023. This brings LightForce's total funding to $150.6M to date.
