Kakao Mobility, a spun off from Kakao Corp, is a mobility as a service (MaaS) startup behind Kakao T, a ride-hailing app.

Kakao Mobility provides taxi-hailing, designated driver booking, nearby parking space searching, and real-time traffic information service.

Kakao Mobility was launched in 2015 as a business unit of Kakao Corp, and spun-off in 2017. The company is headquartered in Pangyo, South Korea.

 

Kakao provides a wide range of mobility services through its Kakao T mobile-app platform including taxi-hailing, designated driver, electric bike hire, parking, and navigation. The company is also developing its autonomous driving technology.

 

Kakao Mobility has grown into South Korea’s largest MaaS platform with strong data analytics and technology capabilities. Kakao Mobility also has two sister companies, Kakao Bank and Kakao Pay.

 

Kakao Mobility’s ride-hailing app has more than 30 million registered users, with 230,000 taxi drivers registered on its platform.

 

Kakao is backed by TPG, The Carlyle Group, Google, GS Caltex, GS Energy, LG Corp, GS Retail, National Pension Service, and others. The company raised $55M in new financing on Dec 02, 2021. This brings Kakao Mobility's total funding to $941.4M to date. The latest round valued the company at $4.2B post-money. Kakao Mobility was previously valued at $3.4B from a funding raised in Jul 2021.
