Joywell Foods

Joywell Foods, formerly known as Miraculex, is a pioneering food technology and consumer goods company unlocking the power of sweet plant proteins in our modern diets.

Joywell Foods is focused on building new and exciting foods around the best tasting and healthiest sweeteners in the world.

Joywell Foods was co-founded in 2014 by Alan Perlstein and Jason Ryder. The company is headquartered in Davis, California.

Joywell utilizes a proprietary microbial fermentation process to produce nature-identical sweet proteins found in exotic fruits and berries. These sweet proteins are great at mimicking the taste of sugar, and as proteins, they don't impact blood sugar levels or gut microbiomes.

Joywell's proprietary technology platform produces proteins using both plants and fermentation technology. The first protein is miraculin, which is sourced from the miracle berry fruit. When enjoyed as a pure ingredient or in a food product, miraculin's sweetness is up to 5500x that of sugar.

Joywell's low carbon footprint, and health-forward, naturally-fermented sweet proteins directly support less deforestation and healthier ecosystems.

Joywell is backed by Piva Capital, Evolv Ventures, Khosla Ventures, SOSV's IndieBio, Alumni Ventures Group, B37 Ventures, Global Brain Corporation, and others. The company raised $25M in Series B round on May 27, 2022. This brings Joywell's total funding to $38.2M to date.
