Hexagon Bio

Hexagon Bio is a data-driven biopharma company pioneering the discovery of medicines encoded in the global metagenome.

Hexagon Bio’s mission to identify medicines encoded in the global metagenome, and bring them to patients.

Hexagon Bio was founded in 2017 by Maureen Hillenmeyer, Brian Naughton, Yi Tang, and Colin Harvey. The company is headquartered in Menlo Park, California.

Hexagon's highly interdisciplinary platform uses data science, genomics and synthetic biology to mine evolutionarily refined small molecules and their protein targets directly from microbial genomes and turn these molecules into therapeutics to combat human diseases that have evaded traditional approaches.

Hexagon's proprietary algorithms identify novel secondary metabolites, along with their cognate proteins (therapeutic targets), from genomic data, allowing Hexagon to bypass traditional screening methods.

Hexagon, through its computational and robotic capabilities, has built a proprietary database of microbial genomes that is 10x the size of all public databases, and is adding thousands of additional genomes per month. Simultaneously, Hexagon is leveraging its database to discover and optimize structurally diverse small molecule therapeutics.

Hexagon is backed by The Column Group, CPP Investments, 8VC, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Two Sigma Ventures, Casdin Capital, Nextech Invest, and others. The company raised $77.3M it's Series B financing round on Feb 13, 2023. This brings Hexagon's total funding to $193.6M to date.
