Enerkem is a cleantech company transforming waste into transportation biofuels, renewable chemicals and everyday products. It makes biofuels and renewable chemicals from waste.

Enerkem’s disruptive technology converts non-recyclable municipal solid waste (i.e. garbage) into clean fuels and renewable chemicals.

Enercom was founded in 2000 by Esteban Chornet & Vincent Chornet. The company is headquartered in Montreal, Quebec with additional offices in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Edmonton, Alberta and Westury, Quebec.

Enerkem is one of the most advanced green technology companies. They are open to partnerships with industry leaders to implement facilities that utilize municipal solid waste to produce clean fuels and renewable chemicals. In addition to licensing its technology, the company provides fully fabricated modular equipment and handles assembly on site. 

Enerkem owns an innovation centre in Westbury. The company's first commercial facility is in Edmonton, Alberta. The company has two similar facilities under development in Varennes, Quebec and Rotterdam. 

Enerkem is majority-owned by institutional, clean-technology and industrial investors, including Rho Ventures, Waste Management, Braemar Energy Ventures, Investissement Québec, Valero, Cycle Capital, BlackRock, Sinobioway Group, The Westly Group, Fonds de solidarite FTQ and Fondaction CSN.

 

In 2013 Enerkem earned the top ranking by Lux Research for near-term growth opportunity among 415 companies, and was named a 2013 Global Cleantech 100 company by the Cleantech Group.
