Apollo Agriculture

Apollo is an agtech company that helps small-scale farmers access markets, financing, and inputs.

Apollo started off by working with maize farmers but helping them diversify to other high-yielding crops has been its area of focus.

Apollo Agriculture was founded in 2015 by Eli Pollak, with Benjamin Njenga and Earl St Sauver. The company is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with an office in Oakland, California.

Apollo uses agronomic machine learning, remote sensing, and mobile technology to help farmers access credit, high-quality farm inputs, and customized advice.

Apollo works with a network of agents, who recruit farmers and retailers to its platform. Apollo’s products include insurance – which is offered by its partners including Pula, the Kenya-based insurtech.

Apollo has worked with 100,000 farmers, and has a network of “over a thousand” retailers and 5,000 agents spread across the country.

Apollo is backed by Softbank Vision Fund 2, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Anthemis Exponential Ventures, Flourish Ventures, Leaps by Bayer, SBI, Breyer Capital, TO Ventures Food, and others. The company raised $40M in Series B round on Mar 21, 2022. This brings Apollo's total funding to $52.2M to date.
