Aiven was founded in 2016 by Oskari Saarenmaa, Hannu Valtonen, Heikki Nousiainen, and Mika Eloranta. The company headquartered in Helsinki, with offices in Berlin, Boston, Paris, Sydney, Singapore, and Toronto.

 

Aiven offers a “database-as-a-service” for nine popular open source data technologies: Apache Kafka, Apache Cassandra, M3, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, InfluxDB, OpenSearch (Elasticsearch fork), and Grafana.

 

Aiven leverages the complete open source ecosystem of extensions and tools to create highly-performant data pipelines for event-driven applications on all major clouds. Hosting is available on the “big three” public clouds (AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud Platform), as well as on DigitalOcean and UpCloud.

 

Aiven currently boasts more than 800 customers across 50 countries around the world, including Atlassian, Comcast, OVO Energy and Toyota. Aiven is also working with some ISVs to increase the company’s market reach further.

 

Aiven is backed by IVP, Atomico, Eurazeo, BlackRock, World Innovation Lab, Earlybird VC, Lifeline Ventures, Salesforce Ventures, and others. The company raised $210M in a Series D round on May 11, 2022. This brings Aiven's total funding to $420M to date. The latest round pushed the company's valuation to $3B pre-money, from a $2B gained after their Series C raised in Oct 2021.
